Battle of the Bands and More Around Birmingham This Weekend

Battle of the Bands- 7 p.m. Friday, June 14
- Shain Park, downtown Birmingham
- The popular Battle of the Bands is back for its 10th season. Four popular local high school bands will battle for the grand prize, plus special performances by new, up-and coming artists.
- 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15
- Birmingham Community House
- Become a qualified childcare provider by learning basic first-aid, emergency response, diapering, feeding and more. Upon passing a short test, a certificate of completion will be awarded. Bring a baby doll, pencil, snack, lunch and a drink.
- Cost: A $5 materials fee payable to instructor.

BRU Fest 2013

- Royal Oak Farmer's Market
- This favorite craft beer event features specialty brews from Bell’s Brewery, burgers from Bagger Dave’s Legendary Burger Tavern, wings from Buffalo Wild Wings, live music from The Square Pegz and more.

- The Berkley Book Corner, 2680 Coolidge in Berkley
- Author Shay Stone, the author of "Pain Pain Go Away" which recounts her experiences with chronic pain and what she learned as a patient at the Mayo Clinic, will have her Michigan Debut on Saturday. Stone will read from her book and answer audience questions.
2 p.m. Saturday, June 15
- 503 Poplar, Royal Oak
- Join Oakland County elected officials, State Representatives, members of the Clinton and Huron River Watershed Councils, Michigan Now radio host Chris McCarus and more to support North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy’s 41st year protecting the headwaters of the Clinton, Huron, Shiawassee and Flint Rivers. Event is a chance to "support clean drinking water and eat the best chicken wings in Oakland County!"

- Held at the Detroit Zoo
- The MIU Run for the Ribbon aims to increase awareness about prostate cancer. More than 1,500 runners/walkers participate each year.
