Four popular local high school bands will battle for the grand prize.  Special performances by young, new, up-and coming artists; Sami Lofman, Griffin Siegel, Ali McManus and Eliana Barwinski, with DJ magic keeping things going by Lahser student, Nexxus -- making this a true community collaboration and celebration of teen and high school rock music. The Battle band line-up is currently being determined, so check the BBCC’s web-site for complete details;  www.bbcoalition.org   A panel of music industry professionals will choose the winners based on originality, musical ability, and performance. The winning band will receive composition and recording sessions with Axis Music Academy at their Southfield Academy studios, along with multiple opportunities to perform at press and live music events powered by the Academy. John Antone, CEO/Founder, of Axis Music Academy, had this to say, "We are very proud to continually grow our partnership with the Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition!  Axis Music Academy has provided Metro Detroit families with music and technology programs over the last 16 years.  We enjoy teaching students how to play, sing, compose, record and perform live.  Our musical crew of instructors and support staff maintain a close relationship with our students and their families to ensure a substance free - healthy home, school and musical life.  We are not just educators, we are also mentors. Kids that participate in music programs get an average of one full grade point higher and channel their energy into positive, healthy and fun activities all via the wonderful things that Axis Music has to offer.  We are really pumped up for the Battle of the Bands!  ROCK!" Kendall Hitch a junior at Seaholm and Co-president of the BBCC’s YAB said, “"The battle of the bands is a great opportunity for teens to do something fun together without worrying about drugs and alcohol.  We want to promote fun for teens in our community with the theme of positive influences in life.  This year we wanted to pick a person to honor and I think Collin Trask is the perfect example for the teens of Birmingham. He is someone who lived his life with a positive purpose and left his influence on the entire community.” Kelly Michaud, the BBCC’s Youth Program Coordinator, said that the Battle of the Bands is one the most popular events that the YAB sponsors. "This is one of our most popular events, and with these talented high school musicians, we draw hundreds of teens.  The school and community support surrounding this even, shows our teens that there are safe places they can go in the community, to hang out with their friends, and NOT have to deal with the pressures of drinking or drug use.  To be the first to kick-off the concerts in the park is an honor!  It shows our teens that they can come together for a beautiful night in the park with with families and people of all ages enjoying their music.”  The YAB students wanted to dedicate the Battle of the Bands this year to Collin Trask because of the way he lived his life and faced his illness. "The YAB students felt strongly about doing this because his life and death has really impacted the students in the community," she said. "They want to honor a special person, who faced his struggle with a terminal illness with so much courage and remained positive through it all.”
