Every Journey Begins With a Single Step

Chef Jim from The Townsend Hotel's Rugby Grille introduces Birmingham Patch to his new blog, which will be featured on the site every other Thursday.

The and Birmingham Patch are joining forces in the blog universe and I was appointed to be the captain. This isn’t an attempt to get a movie made about us (but that would be pretty cool), this isn’t an attempt to send you countless ads for products that you don’t need; however, this is an attempt to make a connection with you — our local community members.

Every morning, afternoon and evening we “connect” with our customers. Modern technology allows us to do this on a larger scale; it gives us the opportunity to take it one step further. In the spirit of thinking globally and acting locally, we want to interact with the Birmingham community.

The blog will start small and grow. It will contain recipes, pictures of finished dishes, question and answer posts, articles on what’s happening around town, biographies on our staff, food and wine pairings, road trips and more. We will be posting an article every other Thursday and answering questions as they arise. I figure if all my friends call me when they’re shopping or cooking you should be able to do the same.

  4. I ramble

So why would a cook want to write? Here’s why:

  1. I have a passion for my craft
  2. The challenge of something completely foreign to me
  3. Continuing the education of myself and whomever my followers become (if any)
  4. Patch is has a local audience that appeals to our community

I have been in this industry for quite some time and I have not only picked up cooking tips but also life lessons along the way.  Be prepared for it all, my 3 ½ cents on life and some of the best food you’ve ever tried in your own kitchen.
