Special Effect Contact Lenses Can be Dazzling, but Proceed with Caution!

Decorative Contact Lenses for Halloween should be bought by an Ophthalmologist

Halloween is less than a week away.  Some people really go the extra mile with their costumes and wear decorative colored contact lenses to spice up their persona. Glowing red vampire eyes or bright green cat eyes are all the rage but remember to use caution when choosing contact lenses.  You should always buy lenses through a trusted eye care professional where a prescription is required.  Never buy lenses from novelty stores or beauty supply stores.  Unregulated lenses, those not monitored by the FDA, could seriously affect your vision as such lenses may not be properly tested for safety.

Our Board Certified Ophthalmologists, Carl F. Clavenna, M.D. and Gregory B. Fitzgerald, will make sure decorative contact lenses properly fit.  Upon examination at our office in Birmingham, MI, each eye will be measured for sizing. Poor fitting contact lenses can cause damage to the eyes.

Also, remember to always keep your contact lenses moist and clean to ward off eye infections.  Halloween is a fun time of the year, but do remember to follow the above vision safety tips.  Otherwise, your eyes may still look scary even without the decorative lenses long after Halloween has come and gone.
