Clavenna Vision Institute in Birmingham, MI donated eyeglass finishing machinery to VOSH International (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity). The primary mission of VOSH International is to facilitate the provision and the sustainability of vision care worldwide for people who can neither afford nor obtain such care. In Dec 2001 VOSH partnered with the World Health Organization and pledged to eliminate preventable blindness by the year 2020. Through mission trips the goal of VOSH is to bring better vision care to a community with little or no access to it. Optometrists and Opticians and a corps of volunteers give of their time and set up eye exam centers in some of the poorest areas around the world. The volunteers administer eye exams to people of all ages – from children receiving vision correction for the first time to the elderly who never had received it either. Through donations of equipment and eyewear, complimentary eyewear is provided to those in need.

The finishing equipment donated by Dr. Carl F. Clavenna and Dr. Gregory B. Fitzgerald of Clavenna Vision Institute will be given to the Wasi Clinic, in Coya, Peru. Dick Gross, of Twin City Laboratory will be sending the equipment to the clinic in Peru and attending the VOSH mission trip in Peru in January 2012 along with Nancy Rife, Optician at Clavenna Vision Institute. Nicole Taylor, Optician at Clavenna Vision Institute, will also attend a VOSH mission trip in Peru in June 2012. Both Opticians were hand selected by a committee to attend these trips.

VOSH has a huge need for eyeglasses to be donated for these missions, especially lined bifocal glasses. Please drop off your eyeglasses that you no longer need to our office, 600 South Adams Road, Ste. 200, Birmingham MI. For further information please contact our office, 248-646-3733.
