Seaholm's Bass, Groves' Ervin Earn All-State Honors

The seniors represent the Maples and Falcons on the best of Class A list for 2012-13.

 

Members of the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan named Seaholm High School's Paris Bass, and Groves High School's Kyle Ervin to the All-State Team for the 2012-13 season this week.

Coaches from around the state nominate their players and vote for just handful out of hundreds of submissions, according to the BCAM website.

Bass, a smooth-shooting guard/forward averaged 23.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game, according to Maxpreps.com.

Seaholm finished 16-6, and 6-4 in the OAA Blue behind Lahser and Lake Orion. After thumping host Andover in the opening round of the MHSAA regionals, the Maples fell 65-56 to Orchard Lake St. Mary's last month.

Groves ended the season 16-7, and was 8-2 in the OAA Gold, tied for first place with Stoney Creek. Following wins over Southfield Lathrup and Southfield, the Falcons fell 64-62 to U of D Jesuit in the MHSAA playoffs.

Bloomfield Hills Lahser's Yante Maten, and Akhemji Williams, of Rochester Adams were the only other Oakland County players honored in Class A. Junior Edmond Sumner, of State Champion Detroit Country Day, earned all-state honors in Class B. Rochester's James Young, who's headed to the University of Kentucky, earned Best of the Best honors.

Maten's junior teammate, Armand Cartwright, earned special mention honors, as did senior Austin Price of Country Day.
