Looking Ahead to Fall: Warriors Soccer Looks to Winning Past

After winning both the league and district championships last year, the Brother Rice soccer team has high hopes for the 2011 season.

The Brother Rice boys soccer team will once again be a force to be reckoned with on the pitch in 2011.

Last year, Brother Rice won both their league and district championships, following up a 2009 season when it won a state title.

Returning a number of impact players, Warriors’ head coach Barry Brodsky is optimistic.

“Just like always, we expect to be competing for league, district and state championships this year,” he said. “Those kind of expectations will never change as long as I’m coaching at Rice. The team this season will be a little different, because we lost some real good seniors from last year, but I think the results will be the same. The talent is still here.”

Brodsky’s talent pool starts with Matt Harborwski, a junior stopper being recruited by some of the top college programs across the country. Fellow juniors Russ Cicerone and Philip Nossler will be two of the Warriors’ best offensive players.

Seniors Alex Krupiak and A.J. Washelewski will provide the team’s on-field leadership and Chris Penoyer, another senior, steps into the role of starting goalkeeper this season.

Sophomores Hunter Mejaly and Garrison Schilling headline the Brother Rice youth movement and should make considerable contributions.
