Birmingham Hockey Players Look to Impress at This Weekend's Prep Hockey Showcase

Athletes from across the country will descend on southeast Michigan to compete in front of college coaches and scouts at the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League Prep Hockey Showcase.

More than 80 scouts packed into Trenton's Kennedy Recreation Center last year for the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League (MIHL) Prep Hockey Showcase, and this year, officials are expecting as many or more.

More than 43 top-ranked high school teams, with hockey players from Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Ontario, are set to play several games over the four-day event that officially began Wednesday.

The 13th annual hockey showcase will end Saturday.

"There's going to be a lot of great hockey and a lot of scouts come from all over the place," said Tim Beaker operations manager at Kennedy.

Though it's downriver, that doesn't mean Birmingham teams won't be well represented. The Birmingham United varsity hockey team, as well as the varsity hockey squad from Detroit Country Day, will also be making an appearance during the tournament.

Showcase ticket prices are $6 per day or $10 for a weekend pass for adults and $4 per day or $6 for a weekend pass for seniors and students. There is a $3 charge to park in the Kennedy Recreation Center parking lot.

A free shuttle service to Kennedy will run continuously from the Trenton High School West Road and Charlton Street parking lots, Martenson Funeral Home parking lot and the Trenton Cultural Center parking lot.
