Birmingham-Area Hoops Teams Advance to Regional Tournament
Country Day, Brother Rice and Roeper defeat their opponents to win district championships Friday night.
Three different teams, three different districts and three different classes. But all the same result.
Brother Rice, Detroit Country Day and advanced Friday to the state regional basketball tournament with wins in their district final games.
In Class A, Brother Rice faced a tough challenge in Southfield-Lathrup. Lathrup has a terrific sophomore guard in Jonathan Williams and has already eliminated two Birmingham teams this week, beating and on its way to the district final Friday night.

The Warriors stopped the streak with a 47-42 win, setting up a tough game Monday against Southfield.
Country Day didn’t struggle to advance in its Class B district final, cruising to a 98-55 victory over Cranbrook-Kingswood at home Friday. The Yellowjackets nearly doubled their opponent’s score in an offensive showcase that featured a strong game for Amir Williams and Austin Price.

The boys from the Roeper also made it to regionals with a close 45-39 win over Detroit City at Detroit Davis Aerospace High School. Duriajaiye Lewis led Roeper with 15 points to help the Roughriders capture a division title.

- Roeper Upper School boys basketball will play Plymouth Christian in its first regional game at 8 p.m. Monday at Plymouth.
- Detroit Country Day boys basketball plays Detroit Osborn at 7:30 p.m. Monday in its first regional game at Imlay City.
- Brother Rice faces Southfield in its first regional game at 5 p.m. Monday at Southfield.
