Avondale’s Ashley Moskal: Jan. 9-13 Patch Athlete of the Week

Late entry from the Athens-Avondale gymnastics team dominates voting this week with 63% of the vote.

Avondale High School’s Ashley Moskal won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for Jan. 9-13 with 4,223 votes after among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 63 percent of the votes cast last week.

The senior is co-captain of the and Avondale varsity gymnastics team. Two weekends ago at the Haslett Invitational, she recorded personal bests in all events to help her team finish second with a season high 145.625 to the four-time defending State Champions from Grand Ledge.

Individually, she won four of the five events – vault (9.60; first place), bars (9.60; second place), beam (9.85; first place), floor (9.85; first place) and all around (38.90; first place).

Other athletes in the poll included:

Taylor Perry: The Rochester High School basketball player had 21 points and 10 rebounds in his team’s big win over rival Adams in the Crosstown Showdown victory.

Allis Costine: The Clawson High School basketball player had two double-double’s to help lead the Trojans to two wins in the Macomb Area Conference Silver division.

Nathan Stepney: Ferndale High School’s leading scorer had 29 points in a win over University and 19 points in a win over Lake Orion.

Maceo Baston:  Troy High School scored 16 points to help the Colts win on the road at Lahser and then had 21 points in a win over Detroit Community.
