Whiz Kid: Chloe Rybicki-Kler

The Roeper sophomore will study at Brown University this summer as one of 56 young people chosen as a Joyce Ivy Foundation Summer Scholar.

Each week, Birmingham Patch spotlights young people in the community who are successful, talented and just plain awesome. Today, we introduce this latest Whiz Kid:

Chloe Rybicki-Kler

  • Age: 16
  • School:
  • Achievement: Rybicki-Kler was named a Joyce Ivy Foundation Summer Scholar for 2011, one of 56 young women to receive this scholarship for precollege study at top colleges and universities, and has chosen to study at Brown University this summer. The Joyce Ivy Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the academic advancement of high-potential female high school students. Rybicki-Kler will be honored at a reception and dinner Saturday in Ann Arbor, featuring an address by Kim Schatzel, the 2011 Joyce Ivy Foundation Leader of the Year.
  • Key to awesomeness: "Chloe is an outstanding, dedicated student who takes nothing for granted,” said Lisa Baker, Roeper Upper School director. “She is constantly looking for ways to challenge herself, and she engages fully in all pursuits. We are bursting with pride for Chloe."

Do you know a special kid in the community who deserves applause because he volunteers after school? Or, maybe your daughter's science club challenges how we think about the environment? Or, perhaps your son's team won its first game in three years. Everyone deserves a little attention, and we want to tell these stories.

Email nominations to Editor Laura Houser at laura.houser@patch.com, provide the information given above and include a photo with names and ages. Come back every Tuesday for our Whiz Kid spotlight.
