School Board Elects New President, Sets Meeting Dates for 2012-13

Trustee Michael Fenberg will head up the Birmingham Board of Education for the 2012-13 school year.

The Birmingham Board of Education met for a brief meeting Tuesday night, electing Trustee Michael Fenberg as president for the 2012-13 school year.

Fenberg served the past year as vice president under President Susan Hill. Hill said Tuesday that the board regularly rotates school board members through officer positions.

This is the second time Fenberg has served as president of the Birmingham Board of Education. Fenberg was first elected to the board in 2004, though his current term is scheduled to end this November.

Also on Tuesday night, Trustee Steve Scheidt, elected to the school board in 2010, was named vice president. Trustee Robert Lawrence was elected secretary while Trustee Geri Rinschler was elected treasuer for the 2012-13 school year.

The school board also set the dates for its regular meetings during the 2012-13 school year. Those dates are:

Assistant Superintendent for Business Services Debbie Piez noted an additional meeting might be needed in September to take care of several financial items. Notice of those meetings will be made ahead of time.

In addition, Oct. 2 and Dec. 18, 2012, as well as Feb. 5, March 19 and May 7, 2013 has been set aside for school board study sessions. Study sessions begin at the end of regularly scheduled meetings.
