Seaholm Field Day

This is the 88th year for this Seaholm tradition, which promotes cooperative planning among students and teachers and class unity. The senior class competes against the junior class while the sophmore and freshman class then battle it out. Each class elects a Field Day chairperson who, with their class advisor and classmates, selects a theme for their class.

Judging is based on class unity, originality, excellence of execution and simplicity. Areas for competition include:

  • Class logo — to be worn on T-shirts by each student)
  • Banner — an eight-by-eight foot banner illustrating the class theme)
  • March — each class enters the gym as a parade unit, marching to their own music and routine)
  • Costumes — inventive and colorful costumes crafted from basic materials based on the chosen theme
  • Class cheer — original lyrics re-written from a popular song
  • Floor show — musical skit performed by six students also based on the theme.
  • Charity — a canned food drive to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank
  • Participation — greatest percentage of students involved in practice sessions, charity and Field Day
  • Field events — ring toss relay, flag shuttle relay, three-legged races, tug-o-war and more
