Miss Michigan, Katie LaRoche to Speak on Human Trafficking

A graduate of Michigan State University and an Alpha Chi Omega Alumna, Katie Lynn is the founder of One World. One Future., a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of and actively combating human trafficking, in the United State and around the world. Prior to taking on the role of Miss Michigan, Katie Lynn worked in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Katie Lynn’s passion for her platform, Raising Awareness of Human Trafficking, and her motivation for her work to combat this form of modern day slavery comes from her first-hand experience volunteering in an orphanage in Belize, and her work in Nepal both with an agency fighting child trafficking and with the Sisters of Mother Theresa.
Through her work, she has come to understand the grim reality that human trafficking is not only a global issue, but also an abuse of human rights that is taking place right here within U.S. borders. As Miss Michigan she aspires to bring awareness to this issue, to lobby for stronger state and federal legislation, and to attain funding for proper rehabilitation services for victims at home and abroad.  Working closely with the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force, Katie Lynn advocates for prevention of the crime by bringing awareness to the issue’s prevalence in Michigan, lobbies for improvement of state and federal legislation to ensure proper prosecution of the criminals who traffic, and appropriate protection for the victims of this crime though specialized services.
Katie Lynn also feels honored that she was given the opportunity to start and now serve as president of One World. One Future., which will be working this year with Maiti Nepal to raise the funds to establish border transit shelters. Each of these shelters is projected to save 225 girls annually from trafficking.
