Help Build a Community Garden at Pierce Elementary

Pierce Elementary is inviting students, parents, teachers and Birmingham community members to help build a community garden at Pierce Elementary.

Pierce is the recipient of a vegatable garden from the non-profit Little Green Gardeners, which was created in 2011 by Birmingham resident Kirsten Taylor Urcan. The organization donates vegetable garden to local schools in Oakland County with the hope of teaching elementary-age students the importance of gardening for their educational, environmental, physical and emotional health.

"I formed Little Green Gardeners because I love the way that growing vegetables brings a sense of accomplishment and gets me excited about eating healthy, and I really wanted to share that iwth today's youth," Urcan siad.
