Birmingham Public Schools Closed Again Wednesday

No need to bundle them up and tempt fate on the icy roads Wednesday morning as the 'polar vortex' continues.

The Birmingham Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, for a third consecutive day due to bad weather.

While many school districts in Oakland and other counties called off classes for Wednesday by late Tuesday afternoon, Birmingham was among the last to cancel. Officials made the announcement shortly before 9 p.m.

The district remained closed Tuesday as the effects of Sunday's severe winter storm continue to plague Metro Detroit and the better part of the northern United States.

The National Weather Service predicts low temperatures to dip well below freezing again Wednesday morning as the effects of a “polar vortex” remain in the region.

Birmingham area private schools also remained closed Wednesday.
