Birmingham was formerly in the 9th congressional district before redistricting moved the city to the 11th District, now represented by Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-11th District).

The newly redrawn 9th District includes Royal Oak, Bloomfield Township, Berkley, Huntington Woods, Southfield Township and Beverly Hills — where Groves High School is located. Students living in Beverly Hills are eligible to apply while Birmingham residents are not.
