Strange Man Tries to Break Into Safe at Sweet Earth, Police Say

Birmingham Police say a man wearing a blue hoodie and red pants unsuccessfully tried to break into a safe at the Maple Road frozen yogurt shop last week.

Birmingham Police are asking residents to be on the lookout after someone tried to unsuccessfully break into a safe at Sweet Earth last week.

According to reports from the Birmingham Police Department, the incident occurred around 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the frozen yogurt shop on East Maple Road.

Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan said while employees aren't completely sure how the man slipped into their back room, police believe he pretended to use the bathroom at one point and snuck in then.

Kiernan said employees didn't see the man leave, but believe he may have slipped out a back door when he couldn't open the safe.

Video surveillance shows the suspect as being a white man with blond or brown hair. The man is approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall and looks to weigh around 220 pounds, police say.

At the time of the attempted theft, the man was wearing a blue, zip-up hoodie with a white shirt underneath, along with red jogging pants with a white vertical stripe down the side. The man was also wearing black shoes, polcie say.
