Road Rage Blamed for Accident on Woodward

Following is a roundup of recent Birmingham Police reports:

Witnesses say drivers cut each other off before accident

Two drivers may face criminal charges after a bout of road rage resulted in an accident at Woodward Avenue and Haynes around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

According to police reports, both drivers — a 55-year-old woman from Bloomfield Hills driving a Chevrolet Tahoe and a 59-year-old man from Royal Oak driving a motorcycle — claimed the other cut them off while driving north on Woodward. Witnesses told police that both drivers began cutting in front of each other, then quickly slowly or stopping. Both drivers also took pictures of each other with their cellphones, police reports state.

As the two passed Haynes Street, police reports state, the Tahoe stopped suddenly, and the man driving the motorcycle ran into the back of the sport utility vehicle. The motorcyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg and several lacerations, and was transported to William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.

Both drivers were cited for reckless driving and injury to a vehicle. The reports have been turned over to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for review of criminal charges.

GPS units, sunglasses taken in early-morning thefts

Several items were taken from two unlocked cars around 3 a.m. Sunday. According to police reports, the cars were parked in driveways at the time of the thefts, one on the 800 block of Emmons, the other on the 700 block of Davis.

A pair of sunglasses was taken from one, while a GPS unit was taken from the other, police said. According to reports, the owner of the car on Davis saw the interior lights of the car on sometime during Sunday night. When he went outside to check, he heard someone running through his backyard before discovering the missing sunglasses.

Two bicycles stolen from drugstore, library

Detectives are investigating thefts of two bicycles this past week, one on Saturday and the other on Tuesday. 

According to police reports, the first bicycle was taken from the back of around 4:35 p.m. Saturday. The bike's owner told police he and a friend left their bikes at the back of the building so they could go inside. When the pair came out a few minutes later, the first man's bike, and his helmet, were gone; while the other bike was left untouched.

The second bike was taken around 7:35 p.m. Tuesday from outside . The bike's owner told police she left her bike in the bike rack outside the building, unlocked. When she returned five minutes later, she told police she saw an unknown man riding away on her bike. She described the man as around 25-30 years old, with short hair, wearing a black shirt and purple gym shoes.
