Purse Stolen From Car, Drunken Driver Arrested in Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested a Bloomfield Hills woman on suspicion of drunken driving last week after stopping her vehicle because it lacked a tire.

Officers on patrol in the area of Woodward Avenue and Bennaville Street saw the woman's car without a tire on the front passenger's side and stopped it at about 3 a.m. on Sept. 21. The vehicle was also swerving in the roadway, police reports said.

The driver, a 46-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman, was under the influence of alcohol and arrested without incident. She received a citation for operating while intoxicated and court date before police released her on bond.

Purse Snatched From Vehicle

A resident in the 1000 block of Wimbleton reported that someone stole her purse from her unlocked car on Sept. 20, police said. The vehicle was parked in an outdoor parking area and the theft reportedly occurred sometime between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Police said neighbors noticed unusual cars in the parking area around the time of the theft, including a silver two-door BMW, a white crossover vehicle and a black foreign car. No one witnessed the theft and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 248-530-1870.
