Police Seek Clues to Damaged Fence at Birmingham Historical Museum

An unknown vehicle that lost control caused heavy damage to the fence on northbound Maple Road and police are looking for tips.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating damage to the wooden fence surrounding the Birmingham Historical Museum.

Officials reported damage to the fence at Maple and Southfield roads on Sept. 12, and the initial investigation showed a vehicle travelled off the roadway and crossed the sidewalk along the north side of Maple Road before running over the fence, according to reports.

The vehicle continued through two sections of the fence, causing heavy damage to the property. No cost estimates were immediately available.

The incident reportedly occurred after 9 p.m. on Sept. 11 and there were no witnesses. The vehicle should have significant front-end damage and white paint transfer from the fence, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 248-530-1870.

This story was updated to reflect the damage occurred on the north side of Maple Road.
