Police Say Drunk Driver Hit Parked Car; $500 Scooter Stolen

Man arrested for allegedly driving drunk, hitting parked car

Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Birmingham early Saturday morning for allegedly driving drunk and hitting a parked car on Wimbleton.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run on the 200 block of Wimbleton around 1:10 a.m. Saturday, during which the victim's vehicle was parked on the street, hit and pushed into a nearby front yard.

Officers followed a trail of leaking fluid away from the accident site east on Wimbleton, south on Adams and east on Derby until they found a car parked near North Eton and Derby with extensive front end damage, reports state.

Police located the car's owner — the 20-year-old — at his Windemere home and determined he had been drinking, reports state. Police took the man into custody where he was held until sober and released on bond. The man's blood results are still pending from the Michigan State Police toxicology lab.

Wallet taken during alleged home invasion on Mansfield

Birmingham police are investigating an alleged home invasion which occured sometime between 2-9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 3. According to police reports, someone entered a home on the 1600 block of Mansfield through an unlocked rear sliding door. A wallet, containing the homeowner's cash and personal ID, was reported missing.

Flower pots smashed outside South Old Woodward office

Police are investigating a report of alleged malicious destruction of property. According to reports, a large cement flower pot was discovered knocked over and smashed in front an office at 298 S. Old Woodward sometime between Friday Aug. 3 and Monday, Aug. 6.

Go-Ped scooter goes missing, checks taken from mailbox

Several items were reported stolen from homes, a car and even a mailbox during the past week:

  • A homeowner reported that two envelopes with checks inside were taken from their mailbox on the 2100 block of Dorchester sometime between 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday. The checks went missing before the mail carrier arrived, the homeowner said. The mailbox in question is attached to the home.
  • A wallet, with a personal ID and cash inside, was reported stolen from a car parked on the 1600 block of Mansfield sometime between 7:15-10:30 p.m. Tuesday. The car's owner said they're not sure if the car was locked.
  • A Go-Ped electric scooter was taken from a backyard on the 1900 block of Cole sometime between 7:30-11:45 p.m. Wednesday. The Go-Ped was worth approximately $500.
