Police Arrest Man in Connection With Four Birmingham Home Invasions

Police arrested the Troy man Monday after witnesses say he tried to climb into a home on Catalpa through the back window.

A Troy man has been arrested in connection with four Birmingham home invasions from the past week.

Christopher Anthony Rousseau, 29, of Troy was arrested Monday afternoon after he was discovered trying to break into a home on the 500 block of Catalpa.

According to police reports, Birmingham Police received a call around 2:20 p.m. Monday, with witnesses claiming an unknown man was attempting to enter a home on Catalpa through a back window. The man — later determined to be Rousseau — was arrested at his vehicle parked near Catalpa and Edgewood.

Earlier that day, reports state, officers responded to a home invasion on the 1300 block of Shipman, where jewelry had been taken. The description of the suspect in that case, as well as the getaway vehicle, matched that of Rousseau and his truck.

Upon searching his car, police officers discovered various substances believed to be illegal narcotics — namely, heroin and cocaine — reports state.

After Rousseau's arrest, Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan said detectives were able to connect Rousseau to two home invasions that occurred on Derby Street last Thursday, on Oct. 25, finding several pieces of jewelry stolen during those home invasions.

Rousseau was arraigned at the 48th District Court on Thursday on two counts of second degree home invasion, one count of possession of cocaine, and one count of possession with intent to deliver heroin.

Bond was set at $100,000, cash only. A pre-exam date is set for 8:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at 48th District Court.
