Motorists Arrested for Smoking Marijuana in Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Birmingham Police officers arrested two motorists on suspicion of operating vehicles while under the influence of drugs in separate incidents last week, police reports said.

An officer on patrol saw a vehicle parked in the lot of the closed Citgo gas station at 33588 Woodward Ave. at 1 a.m. on April 5 and stopped to investigate. As the officer approached, they could smell the odor of burning marijuana. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old Trenton man, and an 18-year-old female passenger were both in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, reports said.

The officer arrested both without incident and issued citations. A court date is pending.

The following day, an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle that was driving with its high-beam headlights on in the area of Bates Street and 14 Mile Road at about 1 a.m., reports said.

The driver, a 27-year-old Bloomfield Hills woman, was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The officer arrested her without incident and issued a citation before releasing her on bond. A court date is also pending.
