A 41-year-old New Jersey man committed suicide this morning by jumping off the Holiday Inn Express on Woodward Avenue, said.
Police were dispatched to the hotel at 10:57 a.m. after getting reports that a nude white male was running around on the roof of the hotel, a news release stated. As police were heading to the hotel, another call came in saying a man had jumped off the roof.
Police found the man unresponsive in the driveway on the north side of the hotel, the release stated. Paramedics from the arrived on the scene and began CPR, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
The man was staying at the hotel, Birmingham Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan said. An investigation of his hotel room turned up some unidentified pills in his luggage, but Kiernan said it was not clear if they contributed to the incident.
Hotel managment had no comment Thursday afternoon.
Kiernan said the man's body was taken from the hospital to the Oakland County medical examiner for an autopsy. Results from the autopsy and toxicology tests won't be known for two to three weeks.
Identification of the man is pending until family is contacted.
