Jogger Finds Gun in Rouge River; Teens Busted With Marijuana

Gun found in Rouge River wasn't loaded

A semi-automatic handgun was retrieved Wednesday from the Rouge River near the Lincoln Avenue bridge, near the intersection of Lincoln and Shirley.

According to police reports, the gun was first discovered in the river by a 14-year-old jogger around 8:35 p.m. The teen called police and pointed out the gun, who said the gun wasn't loaded and appeared to have been in the river for some time.

Officers attempted to contact the registered owner of the gun, who lives in Detroit, but was not able to reach the owner. The gun will be turned over to the crime lab for examination.

Attempted home invasion on East Lincoln

Police are investigating an attempted home invasion on the 500 block of East Lincoln. According to police reports, the homeowner said between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. April 7-8, someone tried to enter his home by breaking off part of the molding next to his front door deadbolt lock. Police and the homeowner believe no one successfully broke into the home.

Teenagers with marijuana busted near railroad tracks

Three 17-year-olds were arrested Monday on charges of possession of marijuana. According to police reports, officers discovered the teens smoking what appeared to be marijuana near the railroad tracks at Tottenham and Shepardbush at 6 p.m. Monday. Officers took all three into custody and later released them to their parents.

Cash, prescription pills taken from unlocked cars

Cash and prescription medication were taken from two unlocked vehicles parked on the 900 block of Oakland. According to police reports, the larcenies occurred overnight Sunday. In total, $30-$40 in change along with two prescription bottles with pills were missing from the vehicles.
