Drunken Driver Hits Tree Outside Birmingham Home

The Birmingham Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested a 33-year-old city resident for drunken driving after witnessing his vehicle jump a curb and crash into a tree in the 600 block of Hawthorne, last week.

The officers were on patrol and saw the vehicle swerving in traffic and speeding in the area of Maple and Hawthorne at about 2:30 a.m. on Jan. 12, reports said. They turned on their sirens to initiate a traffic stop and the driver drove over the curb and head-on into a tree.

No one was injured. Officers cited the man for driving while intoxicated, and a court date is pending.
