Burglary, Retail Fraud Reported at Birmingham Kroger

Birmingham police officers arrested on teen for shoplifting and seek a suspect in a reported break-in at Kroger.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department investigated two recent crimes at the Birmingham Kroger, reports said.

Police responded to the store, at 685 East Maple Rd. at about 8 p.m. Nov. 28 for a breaking and entering report. The officers found a bottom portion of the rear glass sliding door had been smashed by a rock. Investigators looked at video surveillance footage and said a man entered the store, placed liquor bottles in his jacket and walked out. It was unclear what time the incident occurred.

The suspect is described as about 6-feet-tall, 200 pounds and wore a red goose down coat with tan fur around the hood, tan pants, black gloves and a black knit hat. The investigation is ongoing.

In an unrelated incident, officers arrested a 17-year-old boy from Birmingham after he allegedly tried to steal fake eyelashes from the store at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 10, reports said. Officers issued a citation for retail fraud and a court date is pending.

Anyone with information about the burglary is encouraged to call the department at 248-530-1870.
