Birmingham Police Officer, K-9 Brandy Win Second at USPCA Competition

The Birmingham Police Department's K-9 Brandy and her handler takes home second in the United States Police Canine Association's Police Dog Certification and Competition.

's Ofc. Ulrich Schwartz and the department's K-9 Brandy took home second place in the United States Police Canine Association's (USPCA) Police Dog Certification and Competition.

The regional competition was held in Livonia July 26-29.

Six-year-old Brandy, a Dutch Shepherd, joined the Birmingham Police Department in 2007. Brandy is a certified police utility dog and her tasks include searching for drugs, tracking of lost persons or suspects, conducting outdoor and building searches for hidden suspects, article retrieval, suspect apprehension and protecting her handler.

Schwartz, Brandy's handler, has been with the department since 1987.
