Birmingham Bank Robbery Suspect Headed to Florida

Jeffrey Ross, 26, will be extradited to Florida to face bank robbery charges there before facing local count for the July 1 robbery of the Maple Road Comerica Bank branch.

The man who allegedly robbed a Birmingham bank branch earlier this month will be extradited to Florida before facing local charges.

Jeffrey Ross, 26, was removed from the Oakland County Jail last week and taken into federal custody to face multiple bank robbery charges for a series of heists in south Florida, records show.

The FBI issued an alert about Ross this spring after they allegedly identified him as the perpetrator of in robberies in Lauderdale Lakes on May 9, 2012; another robbery at Chase Bank in Tamarac on September 7, 2012; two bank robberies targeting Bank of America in Tamarac on October 19, 2012 and November 2, 2012, a press release stated. He is also alleged to be responsible for robberies at the Bank of America in Fort Lauderdale on Christmas Eve 2012 and at least two others in January and February.

Officers with the Birmingham Police Department arrested him at about 10:45 a.m. July 1 hiding in the bushes behind the First Presbyterian Church following a brief chase. Police found a bag with the stolen money and a loaded handgun in his possession.

Authorities accused him of brandishing a silver semi-automatic handgun inside the Comerica Bank branch on Maple and stating "this is a robbery," according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court.

He then demanded tellers put more than $4,000 in a bag before directing the bank employees into the vault.

Police reports said Ross was uncooperative and refused to provide police with any information upon his arrest. However, after being fingerprinted at the Oakland County Jail, authorities learned that Ross was wanted in Southern District of Florida.

It was unclear what his connection to Michigan is and when he will face counts of armed robbery in federal court.
