Five Things About the Santa House in Birmingham's Shain Park

Children may give Santa their list and have a picture taken in a new location in Birmingham's Shain Park.

Santa's House — Jolly St. Nick's home away-from-home when he's not at the North Pole — opens tonight in Shain Park after the city of Birmingham hosts the annual Christmast tree lighting ceremony

Getting Started

The Santa House opens the 2013 holiday season at 7 p.m. Wednesday, immediately after the city's annual tree-lighting ceremony. Children can visit Santa, let him know what they want for the holidays and have their picture taken with him for a $5 donation that goes to the Birmingham Lions Club and Leader Dogs for the Blind. Parents are welcome to take pictures for free with their own cameras.

New Locale

Santa's 'other' home has a new location this year, underneath the pavilion area in Shain Park.

Hours

The Santa House will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through the holidays, and on Christmas Eve.

Winter Markt

Santa will be available during the 2013 Winter Markt, which runs from Friday, Dec. 6 through Sunday, Dec. 8 in Shain Park. Find out more about the scheduled activities and entertainment in future Patch editions, and on the event's website.
