The event was hosted by the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chai Center in Shain Park.

Nearly 50 Birmingham residents came out on a frosty Tuesday night, huddled together in groups in for the annual lighting of the city's menorah, officially kicking off the first night of Hanukkah.

The event was sponsored by the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chai Center and led by Rabbi Boruch Cohen. Small games and treats were provided for the kids while attendees sang along to traditional Jewish songs, led by Avy Schrieber.

"This is the season of family, friends and faith," said Mayor Mark Nickita, who represented the city at the event.
