Boy Scout Troop 1001 Open House

Boy Scout Troop 1001 will hold an open house on May 2 at the First Presbyterian Church. Enter through the southeast entrance.

Troop 1001 has been active in the Birmingham/Bloomfield area for 97 years. They have produced over 175 Eagle Scouts since 1918 and is one of the oldest Troops in Michigan. Scout Leader Steve Volk, of Birmingham, says that Scouting’s winning combination of character education through adventure and service is key to his unit’s success.

“Troop 1001 provides a safe, healthy and morally strong environment that allows our scouts to develop their skills of leadership and responsibility.  Troop 1001 is committed to the idea that scouts learn best by doing and we offer our scouts numerous opportunities to put this idea into practice."

Boys participate in weekly meetings, community service projects, and outdoor adventure.  In the past, the Scouts have camped at the Pinery in Ontario, a mountainside in New Mexico and have snorkeled in the Florida Keys and canoed in Minnesota.  There are plans for more adventures at Cole Canoe base near Tawas Michigan while the boys learn outdoor, leadership and personal management skills.

For more information on the open house on May 2nd, please contact Steve Volk at 248-203-9801 or SteveVolk@comcast.net.
