Community Corner

2014 Birmingham Bike Festival

Although the name of the event is Birmingham Bike
Festival, it’s not all about bikes. It’s bringing the community together for a
variety of fun and healthy lifestyle events. It encourages families to
participate in sport related activities together. Breathe some fresh air, enjoy
the city, and spend less time in the car and more time outside. The Birmingham
Bike Festival starts at 8 a.m. and runs to 5 p.m. Live music starts at 11 a.m.
We will have a bike valet on-site for anybody who would like to attend the
event on bicycle. Enter yourself in a citizen friendly race and win a prize.
Race with your children; all ages are welcome. Community booths will be set up
to share with you the many other businesses and features that the city has to
offer. In addition to our races and community vendors, the Birmingham Bike
Festival proudly supports four non-profit organizations: The Make A Wish
Foundation of Michigan Wish A Mile Bike Tour, D2N (Detroit2Nepal), Michigan
Tour deCure for the American Diabetes Association, and Wolverine Sports Club. Bring
the children to Miles4Alex, a half-mile parade-style family bike ride that travels
through downtown Birmingham at 1:20 p.m. The event, put on by Detroit2Nepal,
takes place in honor of Alex Graham, a 16-year-old West Bloomfield resident who
lost her life to bone cancer in 1999. Miles4Alex is further enhanced at the Rock Companies/Beaumont Children’s Fair from 1-4
p.m. Before and after the parade, attendees at the Bike Festival can take
advantage of fun family activities, entertainment, games and more all in
support of the cause. Please bring
your family and friends join us for the festivities on Sunday, August 24th!
We hope to see you there.
