What Does the Better Business Bureau Do for Businesses? (And Why Should You Care?)

Consumers prefer to frequent BBB Accredited Businesses because they can trust that the business has agreed to uphold high standards. Learn about the other benefits your company can get from the BBB.

Due to the deception consumers often face in the marketplace, many are hesitant to conduct business with a new company and it’s up to the business to show they are reputable. Consumers want to work with someone they can trust and that’s why more than a million people each year visit our website before making their buying decisions.

Consumers prefer to work with BBB Accredited Businesses because they can trust that the company has met and agreed to uphold BBB’s high standards for ethical business practices. In a competitive marketplace, BBB Accreditation assures consumers that they are choosing a business with a proven track record for being honest, reliable and responsive. Since consumers often compare multiple companies, being accredited gives you a competitive edge.

BBB Accreditation also offers businesses the following benefits:

Expanded Recognition: The BBB plaque, seal and certificate identify a company as a trusted BBB Accredited Business. BBB Accredited Businesses may use the BBB seal on printed materials, company vehicles, and in radio and television advertising.

Increased Visibility: BBB Accredited Businesses are included in the online business directory that increases your market reach and leads customers to your business.

BBB ‘Request a Quote’ Program: The Request a Quote program allows prospective customers to request bids from BBB Accredited Businesses directly from our site – sending hot leads directly to you.

Free Dispute Resolution:
Through the dispute resolution program, BBB staff will work with your business to resolve consumer complaints and offers free arbitration and mediation services.

Increased Online Confidence: As a BBB Accredited Business, you can display the BBB Dynamic Seal on your company websites that links directly to your BBB Business Review.

Better Business Bureau September 21, 2012 at 01:23 PM
Hi Lauri, I know there are some misconceptions about the BBB out there on this, but in fact, we hold our accredited businesses to higher standard than other businesses who get complaints. Our accredited businesses must meet these standards http://detroit.bbb.org/bbb-accreditation-standards/ to become and maintain accreditation and they must work to resolve ALL complaints. We are a non-profit, membership based organization, and thus of course have to have a fee in order to conduct business - but we will not stake our reputation to support and unethical business simply because they pay. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact me at any time and I am happy to give you more information or discuss your concerns. Lisa Dilg, Director of Community Relations, BBB ldilg@easternmichiganbbb.org or 248.799.0326. Thanks! Lisa
