What's Open and Closed This Fourth of July in Birmingham

Staying in town this Independence Day? Here's what will be open around Birmingham.

The Fourth of July is this Thursday, and while offices are closed and the grills are fired up, you still may need to get out and around Birmingham. Here's what you need to know about what's open and closed.

City offices

  • City offices: Parking tickets happen at all times of the year, including the Fourth of July. However, City Hall including the clerk's office, city manager's office and finance department, will be closed Thursday.
  • Post office: The post office at 1221 Bowers St. will not be open on the Fourth of July, nor will there be any mail delivery or pickup. The post office will reopen Friday for normal business hours, 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Trash collection: Trash collection will be one day late since the Fourth of July occurs on a weekday.
  • Emergency: Call 911 for police or fire emergencies. For any non-emergency, call the Birmingham Police Department at 248-530-1889.

Around town

  • Library: Baldwin Library will be closed Thursday.
  • Movies: Need to get out on the Fourth of July? You're in luck; Birmingham's movie theaters are still open. Show times start at 11 a.m. for The Lone Ranger, World War Z and Despicable Me 2 in 3D.
  • Out and About: Though it may not be on the Fourth of July, don't miss Birmingham's annual fireworks display the night before on the Lincoln Hills Golf Course. Gates will open at 7 p.m. with the show beginning at dusk.
