Weekend Planner: Picnic, Corn Festival and Parade

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend.

   When: Noon-4 p.m. Saturday
   Why go: The Birmingham Torry Community Association is hosting its annual picnic Saturday. Festivities will include live music, pizza and lemonade.
2. 
   Where: Kilwin's
   When: 1-2 p.m. Saturday
   Why go: Join the Fresh 100.3 Street Team and Jay Towers in the Morning at Kilwin's. Buy-one, get-one cones will be available for purchase.
3. 
   Where: Municipal parking lot No. 6, off North Old Woodward Avenue
   When: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday
   Why go: Enjoy corn games, corn crafts, corn shucking and  corn demonstrations at the annual Birmingham Farmers Market Corn Festival. More than 40 booths will offer produce, baked goods and flowers.

   When: 2-4 p.m. Sunday
   Why go: The , a 17-piece Ann Arbor group with period dress and antique instruments, will lead a parade honoring Birmingham's veterans of the Civil War, which began 150 years ago in 1861. It will march from the war's Shain Park memorial to the Historical Museum and Park. Spectators are invited to follow. Vintage music will be presented outside the museum.

   Where: Cranbrook School at 39221 Woodward Ave. in Bloomfield Hills
   When: 8:45 p.m. Friday
   Why go: Take a walking tour of bats, including their houses and habitats and learn about their feeding habits, with the Cranbrook Institute of Science. Look up in the sky to see some real bats flying around, and feel free to ask questions of the bat walk guides.
