Weekend Planner: Magic of Birmingham, Holiday Cookie Walk

    11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday
    Where: Shops of downtown Birmingham
    Why Go: Thinking of doing some Christmas shopping this weekend? Visit downtown Birmingham for great deals from select stores all day. Plus, the city will give out more than 2,000 prizes to shoppers who receive a red ornament from Santa's helpers scattered throughout the city. One lucky shopper will receive a diamond necklace Saturday from . Highlighting the day is a starting at noon at the .

  2. When:
    10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday
    Where:
    Why Go: Love holiday cookies but don't feel like spending all day in the kitchen? Visit the First Presbyterian Church's first holiday cookie walk. Attendees pick up a box at the door and fill it with as many cookies as they like, provided by the church and its members. Boxes will be weighed and sold at $10 per pound.

    7 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday
    Where:
    Why Go: Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's popular 1905 children's novel, this musical tells the story of Sarah Crewe, a wealthy, intelligent and creative young girl who gets her formal education at a boarding school. She struggles with the haughty headmistress and things continue to get worse for Sarah, but in the end she proves she is a little princess. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.

    11:45 a.m. Saturday
    Where:
    Why Go: The Community House continues its Classical Brunch series with a special Children's Educational Concert on Saturday. Begin the day by dining on delicious brunch fare, then enjoy listening to Sergei Kvitko on piano while Ken Beacher narrates a program of music storytelling featuring works by Poulenc (The Story of Babar) and Debussy (The Toy Box). Note: Saturday's performance is geared for families and children. 

  5. When:
    2 p.m. Sunday
    Where:
    Why Go: Calling all Glee fans! If you like the hit TV show, then check out the 'Seasons Of Love' concert performed by the Motor City Glee Club on Sunday, a one hour love-filled performance based on Glee. All event proceeds will be donated to Wish Upon a Wedding Michigan, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing weddings for individuals facing a life-threatening illness. Tickets are $6.50.
