Weekend Planner: Haiti Benefit Concert, Cafe Grand Opening, CROP Walk and More

Also happening this weekend: Oakland County Rode the Rails and 'The Little Mermaid Jr.'.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do this weekend. Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time.

The Little Mermaid Jr. 

  • When: 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 7 p.m. Friday
  • Where: Seaholm High School
  • Cost: $15
  • Why Go: Watch 30 local kids sing their hearts out to the familiar tunes of the Disney classic. As Project DayDream's second production of the season, the family-friendly show will take you 'under the sea' and back to your childhood.

Oakland County Rode the Rails

  • When: 8:30 a.m. Saturday
  • Where: Dick O'Dow's
  • Cost: $30
  • Why Go: Join rail fans, teachers, local historians, researchers and preservationists on a four hour bus tour that will retrace routes established by the Detroit United Railway within Oakland County. The tour will begin and end in Farmington at the site of the historic Botsford Inn, travel north through Royal Oak to Pontiac and back through the lakes area of central Oakland County. Lunch at Dick O'Dow's in Birmingham is included in the ticket price.

Liquid Lunch Cafe

  • When: 6 p.m. Saturday
  • Where: Be Well Lifestyle Center
  • Cost: $65
  • Why Go: Experience Thai food like you never have before with a special five course dinner consisting of healthy raw ingredients. Raw food chef and TV Host Kirsten Gum will show you how to incorporate natural living foods into your life with fun and flare. Call 855-9-BEWELL to register.

Birmingham/Bloomfield CROP Walk

  • When: 2 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: First United Methodist Church of Birmingham
  • Cost: Free (donations encouraged)
  • Why Go: Help raise money for the Church World Service during the event's 30th anniversary in Birmingham. The walk will be three different routes of varying length, including a one and a half-mile walk, three-mile walk and a five-mile tour, all which end at the First Presbyterian Church of Birmingham. 

Concert for Haiti

  • When: 7 p.m. Sunday
  • Where: First United Methodist Church of Birmingham
  • Cost: Free (tickets required)
  • Why Go: Singer/songwriter Scott Wilkinson, along with a band of Detroit musicians, join with Haitian trumpeter Carlot Dorve in a multimedia concert experience. Proceeds generated will support ongoing relief work in the schools, clinics and senior citizens’ care facilities run by the Haitian Methodist Church in Jeremie, Haiti.  Tickets are available at all Jeremie Project Michigan Churches, including FUMC.
