Updated: Hundreds Still Without Power in Birmingham

Nearly 1,400 DTE customers in Bloomfield Township are among the 130,000 impacted around Metro Detroit by Friday's storms

Update 11 p.m.: Power returned late Saturday night to the majority of Birmingham residents impacted by the storms and high winds Friday. Roughly 600 DTE customers located just east of Woodward Avenue, and west of Southfield Road were still without service. Estimated restoration time was 11:30 p.m. Sunday, according to the DTE outage map

More than 2,500 DTE customers in the Birmingham area were without power until late Saturday night, and some estimates were as late as Monday. However, workers from Indiana and Ohio assisted Detroit-area DTE crews for repairs completed by 11 p.m.

In all, more than 130,000 customers in Oakland Macomb and Wayne Counties experienced outages due to the severe thunderstorms.

The majority of outages in Birmingham remained south of 14 Mile Road between Southfield Road and Coolidge Highway, according to the DTE outage map. Another 843 customers north of 14 Mile Road near Southfield Road also lost power at about 6:20 p.m. Friday. Restoration is expected in both areas by 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Other areas east of Woodward Avenue may not have service restored until late Sunday night, or even Monday,

The National Weather Service predicts an isolated shower or two Saturday afternoon, and sunny skies and less humidity Sunday, with high temperatures between 75 and 80.
