Get Out: Garden Party, Made in the Motor City and More

From a charitable 5K to a bridal show, there's something for everyone this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Birmingham Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.


  1. Where:
    When: 6-8 p.m. Friday
    Why Go: Studio 1, the organization that helps provide hands-on art experiences to people in southeast Michigan, will be hosting a garden art sale, featuring art created by BBAC faculty and students. All sales benefit Studio 1.

  2. Where:
    When: 8-11 p.m. Friday
    Why Go: Check out what Detroit has to offer in this exhibition of everything "made in the Motor City." Enjoy Michigan product displays, a fashion show featuring Detroit apparel, specialty cocktails and more.

  3. Where: Downtown Birmingham
    When: 8:30 a.m. Sunday
    Why Go: The will sponsor the third annual 5K run and one-mile fun run for children. Proceeds support Oakland County  children's health and wellness programs.

  4. Where:
    When: 1-4 p.m. Sunday
    Why Go: The Italian Dish is hosting its first in-store bridal event Sunday afternoon. There will be an ambassador from Vietri — an Italian furnishings retailer — on-hand, plus hairstylist consultations, door prizes, event planners, wedding cake samples, Roma Sposa Bridal gowns modeled and more.

  5. Where:
    When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday
    Why Go: In collaboration with the fire department, police department and engineering department, the open house will offer attendees the opportunity to discover and experience the day-to-day operations of the public services office through interactive displays and activities.
