5 Things To Know This Week: Movies and Music in the Park, 'Willy Wonka' Premieres

Here's what you need to know about what's happening in Birmingham this week.

  1. : Bill Vlasic — area resident, Michigan Notable Books author and Detroit bureau chief for the New York Times — will read from his latest book, Once Upon a Car: The Fall and Resurrection of America's Big Three as part of 's Writers Live series. The reading will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the library. Books will available for purchase and signing.
  2. : As part of Birmingham's In the Park Concert series, the 730 Club Band will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday in . The group performs soft rock. 
  3. : As part of 's Jazzy Nights on the Terrace series, April Tini and the Dennis Tini Trio will perform this Thursday at The Community House. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Appetizers and drinks will be available for purchase. Tickets are $10.
  4. : Project DayDreams's production of Willy Wonka, featuring young actors from Birmingham and surrounding cities, premieres at 7 p.m. Thursday at . Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.
