5 Things To Know This Week: First Day of School, Fashion's Night Out

Here is what's going on in Birmingham this week.

  1. School board meets Tuesday: The Birmingham Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the district's main administrative offices on Merrill Street. Other city meetings this week include a Parks and Recreation meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as well as an Historic District Committee at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
  2. : Birmingham joins cities across the country in celebrating Fashion's Night Out. A dozen downtown fashion boutiques will be keeping their doors open late for shopping to peruse special sales. Most events will take place between 6-9 p.m.

Make sure to stop by at 9:30 a.m. Thursday for Birmingham's Storyteller's Guild to read from children's books published this year. Everyone in attendance will receive a 2011 reference list of titles.
