5 Things To Know This Week: Curriculum Nights, House Tour

Two movie screenings also headline what's going on this week in Birmingham.

  1. City Commission to meet Monday: The Birmingham City Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday on the second floor of . On the agenda is a resolution establishing application deadlines for those looking to open bistros in the city.
  2. : presents its 24th annual Birmingham House Tour 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday at eight of the city's most impressive homes. The homes range in style from traditional to contemporary and the cost per person is $30 in advance or $35 the day of the tour.
  3. : The Race Relations & Diversity Task Force in collaboration with WISDOM (Women’s Interfaith Solutions for Dialogue and Outreach in Metro Detroit) will be screening the film Arranged at The Community House at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The movie is about a friendship between an Orthodox Jewish woman and a Muslim woman who meet as first-year teachers in a public school in Brooklyn.
  4. : American House Senior Living Communities will be premiering the film From the Beaches of Normandy to the Jungles of Vietnam at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the . The film is a 95-minute compilation of the award-winning documentaries Detroit, Our Greatest Generation and Our Vietnam Generation.
  5. Schools to hold curriculum nights all week: Various Birmingham schools will be holding their curriculum nights this week, where parents can visit their children's classroom, meet their teacher and take a look at what they'll be learning this year. This week's lineup includes:
    Tuesday: (6:30 p.m.), (7 p.m.), (K-2, 7 p.m.)
    Wednesday: (6 p.m.), (6:30 p.m.), (7 p.m.)
    Thursday: (5-6, 6:30 p.m.), (6:45 p.m.)
