5 Things to Know This Week: Beatles Tribute Band, Author Readings and More

Here is what's going on this week in Birmingham.

As part of the city's Concert in the Park series, Toppermost, a Beatles tribute band, will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday at . Performers are Tom Diab (Paul McCartney), Ron Lockhart (George Harrison), Ray Steinberg (Ringo Starr) and Alex Lumelsky (John Lennon).
The summer poetry and fiction series at the continues Monday at 7 p.m., featuring Diane Dickinson and Dorene O'Brien. Dickinson's poems have appeared in California Quarterly and Altadena Review, among others, while O'Brien is currently working on a novel about fossil hunters in Ethiopia and a short story collection that explores the relationship between time, place and memory.
City to hold several meetings: Several boards and commissions will meet this week, including the , which meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the ; the , which meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the second-floor meeting room in ; and the Principal Shopping District Board, which meets at 8 a.m. Thursday at .
: Temple Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield is hosting "Israel, Iran and Peace: Congress and the Middle East" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, featuring guest speaker U.S. Ambassador to Israel Bradley Gordon. A light dessert reception will follow.
: The invites families to enjoy stories, songs and activities celebrating Mexico and Latin America at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The program is designed for children 7 and older. No registration is necessary.
