Family Friendly Ways to Spend New Year's Weekend

There are plenty of ways to enjoy the holiday, including bowling, movies, roller skating and hiking.

Normally, we do a countdown of activities to help you plan for your adventures in the upcoming weekend. With holiday coming up, we thought we'd focus on everything New Year's this week.

So far this week we've discussed:

Today let's look at some family friendly ways to spend New Year's weekend around town.

  • Rock'n'Bowl at  (Troy): The lanes has its annual family-friendly bowling party New Year's Eve. You can choose a two-hour time frame for $50 after 5 p.m. and enjoy current music and videos playing in the background, prizes and games, plus colored pins.
  • Catch a movie at the  or : Both movie theaters have family-friendly movies showing including: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Hugo, The Adventures of Tin Tin (3D), We Bought a Zoo, Arthur Christmas, and The Muppets. For showtimes click here.
  • Family roller skating at : New Year's Day afternoon Skate World will have a family roller skating session. Enjoy roller skating across the wooden floor while listening to music. The session runs from 1-5 p.m. Admission is $5 per person. Skate rental is $2.  
  • Shoe Year's Day at Pontiac Lake Recreation Area: Bundle up the family and start your New Year with a healthy brisk walk through Pontiac Lake Recreation area. The 1.5 mile moderately difficult hike is one of 18 hikes taking place at 18 state parks and recreation areas all across Michigan. Afterwards enjoy hot chocolate and sledding.
