How Many Parking Meters Don't Work in Birmingham?

Do you find a large number of parking meters that don't give you full credit for money deposited?

I know I stated that I was going post ideas on fundraising for non-profits, and shall report on a couple more events next week BUT, putting quarters in those darn meters whitout receiving credit is also, I guess, a sort of fundraiser for the City of Birmingham.

Don't get me wrong, I love Birmingham and don't mind helping, but it's a darn nuisance (to say the least) taking your parking ticket to the city office to have an unjustified ticket cancelled.

Is it just me, or do you also find an un acceptable number of meters mal-funtioning?

Let me know, I'm curious.

Birmingham should take a page from Palo Alto, CA. They don't have meters on some of their streets. People shop more and visit more and they even have structures that are free as well and they are full. You can't enjoy a restaurant and your company while watching your watch! People jam the meters on purpose. Mostly kids I imagine. With the economy as such, it would make sense to give back to the patrons that fill you city's establishments. Get rid of the meters,

We always use the parking garages or lots. They are well lit and conveniently located throughout town and the most we ever spent was $6 and we were in Birmingham for the entire day. Parking garages, parking meters and parking fees as fussy as they may be also help keep Birmingham safe and deters petty crime.

Oddly enough, a significant percentage of meters in Birmingham are utilized by store owners and employees. They feed those meters throughout the day...sad and very counterproductive from a business prospective. You can only imagine how useless on-street parking would become if the meters were removed. The first 2 hours in every conveniently located deck are free. I use them and never have to be concerned about unjustified tickets.

I fully agree that the parking garages are great, but there aren't any on the north end of Old Woodward and, if I'm "popping in" somewhere they take too long. Thanks for the feedback.

Birmingham needs to step it up like ann arbor and install electronic pay parking system so people can use credit cards and paper money and not those changes. Its too old school and pathetic.
