Bordine's on Woodward Not Returning for Spring; What Should Replace It?

The garden center announced in December that it would close its Birmingham location, so what should fill this large vacancy on Woodward Avenue?

Spring may be emerging earlier this year, but the flowers won't be returning to — the garden center just south of the . The regional chain of garden centers announced that its Birmingham location will not reopen this spring.

Bordine's had leased the property for several years and wanted to purchase the space at 33779 Woodward Ave. at the end of the December.

"As with any real estate deal, it is not done until it is done," a post on Bordine's Facebook page dated Jan. 9 reads. "At the end of December we did not purchase the property as planned and to our surprise we were unable to extend our lease. Therefore, we had no other choice other than to depart the site."

Bordine's representatives said the property is now bank-owned and they are not sure what will be done with the site.

"We want to thank all of our great customers that visited us at Bordine's on Woodward," the Facebook page reads. "No doubt, Birmingham is an excellent place to do business. Truly a fantastic community. We will miss being there!"

Bordine's has locations in Rochester Hills, Clarkston, Grand Blanc and Brighton.

In the spirit of Visions for Vacancies, however, we want to know: What should fill the old Bordine's on Woodward location? Another garden center or something else entirely?

According to Signature Associates, the space has 9,200 total square feet available, including 6,400 square feet of potential office space. The property is priced at $910,000, or $98 per square foot.
