Birmingham, Townsend Hotel Featured in Forbes

Check out where Forbes went while visiting the Detroit area as part of the publication's Travel Guide.

Readers of Forbes magazine got an extended look at the shops around downtown Birmingham and the Townsend Hotel this week as part of the publication's Travel Guide.

Contributor Laura Downey wrote extensively about her two-day visit to the Motor City, which included an overnight stay at the landmark Townsend Hotel and her experiences at some of the spas and eclectic shops the city has to offer.

The food and drinks at the Townsend got high marks, as did the hotel's reputation for top-notch service.

"When it’s time to head back to your room, don’t be surprised if the bellman greets you by your surname, inquires about your favorite piece of artwork at the DIA or asks if you need anything else to make your last night at The Townsend more comfortable. It’s in the hotel staff’s DNA to treat everyone like a VIP," Downey wrote.

Her visit also included stops in downtown Detroit and shopping at the Somerset Collection in Troy, but local Birmingham businesses got the bulk of the attention, including mentions of the Margot European Day Spa, Found Objects, and Barbara’s Paper Bag.
