What's New: Fall Exhibits Open Friday at BBAC

This fall, the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center will feature the Michigan Ceramics 2012 Biennial Exhibition, the Birmingham Society of Women Painters and more.

There's always something happening in Birmingham's arts community.

Since Birmingham Patch is dedicated to keeping you informed about what's going on around town, today, we're taking a closer look at:

Fall exhibits at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center

  • Where: (BBAC)
  • Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday
  • Cost: All exhibits are free

The BBAC will be holding an opening night reception for all its fall exhibits from 6-8 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public.

Leading the way is "Teohome: The works of Jacklyn Brickman."

"The complexities of how we inhabit and engage with the earth and the entitites we share with are at the core of my work — systems within systems," said Brickman, one of the principles of Butter Projects, a Royal Oak artist-run studio and exhibit space.

Also at the art center this fall is "Urban Fragments II", an exhibit by native Detroiter Yolanda Sharpe. "My creative impetus," she said, "is shaped by my formative years in Michigan, and by a desire to capture Detroit's beauty in the midst of decay and re-ruralization."

Also on display will be the work of BBAC instrutor Todd Burroughs' adult students. Burroughs teaches an in-depth course about venetian painting. The Birmingham Society of Women Painters also returns; the group was founded in 1957, eventually creating the organization that would become the BBAC.
